The story goes that two friends were walking through the desert. During some point of the journey they had an argument, and one friend slapped the other one in the face.

　　The one who got slapped was hurt, but without saying anything, wrote in the sand: "Today my best friend slapped me in the face."

　　They kept on walking until they found an oasis, where they decided to take a bath. The one who had been slapped got stuck in the mire and started drowning, but the friend saved him.

　　After he recovered from the near drowning, he wrote on a stone: "Today my best friend saved my life."

　　The friend who had slapped and saved his best friend asked him, "After I hurt you, you wrote in the sand and now you write on a stone. Why?"

　　The other friend replied: "When someone hurts us we should write it down in sand where winds of forgiveness can erase it away. But when someone does something good for us, we must engrave it in stone where no wind can ever erase it."

沙子与石头
穿行在沙漠中的两个人是一对好朋友，途中，两个人发生争执，其中一个人给另一个人一记响亮的耳光。被打的那个人什么话都没有说，只是在沙子上写到：“今天，我最好的朋友在我脸上打了一耳光。”
他们继续走，终于发现了一个绿洲。两个人迫不及待地跳进水中洗澡，很不幸，被打耳光的那个人身陷泥潭，眼看就要被溺死，他的朋友舍命相救，终于脱险。被救的人什么话也没说，在石头上刻下一行子：“今天，我最好的朋友救了我一条命。”
打人和救人的这个人问：“我打你的时候，你记在沙子上，我救你的时候，你记在石头上，为什么？”
另一个人答到：“当你有负与我的时候，我把它记在沙子上，风一吹，什么都没有了，当你有恩与我时，什么时候都不会忘记。
他说明一个道理：生命的重量往往取决与我们记住什么忘记什么。
