4-Methyl-5-propoxyazole (II). Method A. A solution of (I) (i0 g) in chloroform (17 ml) was added droDwise with stirring during 1 h to a mixture of phosphorus pentoxide (58 g), roasted kieselguhr (13 g), and dry chloroform (240 ml). The reaction mass was heated at the boiling point for 5 h and the chloroform was removed in vacuum. The solid residue was added in portions with stirring at a temperature no greater than 15~ to 20% aqueous potassium hydroxide solution (250 ml). Compound (II) was extracted with chloroform (3 • 150 ml) and the extract dried with sodium sulfate. The solvent was removed in vacuum. The residue was distilled in vacuum. Yield was 4.46 g (50%), bp 78-81~ (20 nun), n~ ~ 1.4420. According to literature data bp 98-99~ (53 mm) [ii]. |
