The configuration of title compds. was detd. by the method of asym. transformation.  Following MeCH(NHR)​(CH2)​nPh (I) (R = H) were prepd. by the method of Wallach and Leuckart (n and b.p.​/mm. given)​: 0, 78-​80°​/13; 1, 103°​/13; 2, 110-​15°​/14; and 3, 123-​5°​/19.  The following I (R = CHO) were prepd. by formylation of I (R = H) (n and b.p.​/mm. given)​: 0, 125-​30°​/0.3; 1, 155-​7°​/3; 2, 145-​50°​/3; and 4, - (m. 65-​6°)​.  The redn. of I (R = CHO) with LiAlH4 gave the following I (R = Me) (n and b.p.​/mm. given)​: 0, 80°​/12; 1, 48-​52°​/15; 2, 80°​/1; 3, 122-​4°​/10; and 4, 135-​7°​/18.  I (R = Me, n = 0-​4) (7.5 millimoles) in 5 ml. tetrahydrofuran were treated with 5 millimoles (S)​(+)​-​hydratropic acid ([α]​D 86.6°) and 5 millimoles dicyclohexylcarbodiimide.  The following unreacted optically active I were removed by distn.: (S)​(-​​-​I (R = Me, n = 0)​, [α]​D -​3.5°; (S)​(+)​-​I (R = Me, n = 1)​, [α]​D 0.12°; (S)​(-​​-​I (R = Me, n = 2)​, [α]​D -​0.36°; (S)​(-​​-​I (R = Me, n = 3)​, [α]​D -​0.2°; and (S)​(-​​-​I (R = Me, n = 4)​, [α]​D -​0.16°.  (R)​(+)​-​I (R = H, n = 2)​, [α]​D 3.12°, was converted into (R)​(-​​-​I (R = Ac, n = 2)​, m. 55°, [α]​D -​7.12° (c 0.9, EtOH)​, which upon ozonolysis, H2O2 oxidn., sapon. and benzoylation, gave (R)​(+)​-​N-​benzoyl-​γ-​aminovaleric acid, [α]​D 3.33° (c 0.6, H2O)​, whose abs. configuration was detd. by Balenovic and Cerar.  (+)​-​I (R = H) and (+)​-​I (R = Me) belong to the same steric series as shown by O.R.D. studies.  The O.R.D. curve of S-​(-​​-​I (R = H, n = 0) showed a pos. Cotton effect at 250-​70 mμ superimposed on a strong neg. background curve.  (S)​(+)​-​I (R = H, n = 1) showed the same pos. Cotton effect on an anomalous pos. background.  The O.R.D. curves of (S)​(-​​-​I (R = H, n = 2-​4) were monotone.
CA查到的结果是+0.12 °        Wavlen: 589.3 nm。
