The influences of the solvent, solvent concentration, reaction temperature, and the catalyst concentration on the polymerization were investigated. Bitumen softening point tester, gel permeation chromatographer, NMR spectrometer, colorimeter and FT-IR spectrometer were used to measure the softening point, molecular weight, cyclization degree and structure of resins. The softening point of resin is about 50°C higher using dichloromethane as solvent than using toluene. The highest softening point of the 1, 3-pentadiene resin produced is 139°C, which is the highest among current reports. The softening point of the resin increases with the increase of reaction temperature. Effect of amount of catalyst on the softening point is very small.
