something about immigration
I know quite a few people are quite concerned about immigration issues. Some even regard getting a permanent visa as getting a ticket towards a good life. Here I can share some info and my own opinion about it.
Recently there is a big news, I wonder if you guys have heard that Canadian Government has put a haul on The Immigrant Investor Program (IIP), which is also known as investment immigration.
The reasons are as follows:
1. The threshold for investment immigration is a bit too low, only about 800,000 Canadian Dollars, while for English, New Zealand and Australian counterparts, it’s from 5 million dollars, some even up to 10 million. What is even more amazing is that these countries, unlike Canada, don’t guarantee you getting a permanent residence unless your investment is successful and long enough.
2. Immigrants are not paying as much tax as skill workers, or even babysitters.
3. Government is trying to eliminate large and longstanding backlog of applications (about 65,000 applicants), which might take 6 years or so under current policy.
In another word, investment immigrants for Canada are made a bit redundant, given the huge amount here.
Months before I heard another piece of news about Canadian skill immigration reform, which is about government’s having removed some certain occupations whose corresponding degrees were providing a pathway to permanent residence for overseas students. Overseas students within these programs are put into a very embarrassing situation cause the main reason they do the course is being they want to get a permanent residence, and stay.
Australian Skilled Occupation List concerns quite a few people as well, including international students, and skilled workers or professionals in developping countries like China, India. Basically it’s becoming more and more strict.
Back to the days when China is in a special period of time, it’s almost for sure for one to get a permanent visa as long as their current visa is valid (travelling visa is also okay), because as long as they make the application, they will be granted a humanitarian visa, which is permanent, and provides even more welfare than normal permanent visa.
Seven or eight years ago, when John Howard was still the Prime Minister in Australia, there was a boom of Australia Higher Education Industry, which makes Australian Education the fourth biggest industry within Australia, because any course, including low level tafe course can lead you to be a permanent resident here.
What about the current immigration policy? Most overseas students cannot be granted a permanent visa, out of many reasons. Skill workers have to have a high level of English Skill and rich relevant working experience before they can be selected by EOI system.
I heard, could be overheard, that Australia is likely to remove 50 or more occupations from Skill Occupation List, including accountant, engineering and loads of other professionals.
American skill select is staying in 2009, which means you are at least having a five-year waiting period if you are in line now.
Alright, people might say it’s very hard and is getting harder to get a chance to live abroad, which is a pity. What I want to say is that, most people are not living as well as they were living in China. Believe it or not, it’s up to you.
