As a new pre-school education form, kindergarten emerged in China at the end of Qing Dynasty and afterwards drew increasing attention among the people. There hav been existing different views over the periods. At the end of Qing and beginning of the Republic, it was promoted as the base education and emphasised as complementary to family education; in the 20s and 30s, it was associated with social probelsm and focusing on relieving professional rural women from the burden; more adapted to the ongoing war and emphasising cultivation of talents for re-building up the nation after the war against Japanese invation. All the views not only reflect the perspective of social background and winding course of the new pre-school eduation, but also impact on the development of contemporary pre-school eduation in China.
