the traditional QFR method, where R stands for‘rock fragments’, and the ‘Gazzi-Dickinson’ QFL method where L stands for ‘aphanitic lithic fragments’. The main difference between these methods is the procedure used for the classification of sand- and gravel-grade rock fragments. The former method records these grains as rock fragments of a particular type (e.g. plutonic), whilst the latter records them as the specific sand- or gravel-grade mineral species (e.g. alkali feldspar) |
