| Anping Bridge is the longest one among the existing ancient stone bridges in China, with the reputation that ¡°there is no bridge longer than this one¡±. Anping Bridge is located over the bay between Anhai Town, Jinjiang City and Shuitou Town, Nan¡¯an City, in Fujian Province, China. It is commonly known as Wu-li Bridge because of its length of five li. The construction of the bridge was started in the eighth year of Shaoxing Period, Southern Song Dynasty (1138), and completed 14 years later. Five pavilions were built on the bridge for tourists to relax. There are stone fences on both sides of the bridge. After 800 years of vicissitudes, Anping Bridge became a ¡°land bridge¡±. It was on the list of the first batch of national key cultural relics protection unites in 1961. National appropriation was provided during 1980 and 1985 for its maintenance and restoring the original appearance of Song Dynasty. |
