To become more happy ,we need to make a bold attempt to abandon the unnecessary desires and try to live in a slower ,more simple and natrual way ,just like many of our ancestors did ,so we can leisurely enjoy the taste of the coffee and meditate on the meaning of our life.

In my opinion, it tells us that life is half bitter and half sweet. But we don't realize the happiness until we finish the hard trip. Besides, it reminds me of another saying, "Life is a journey, not a destination."

It is very complicated to say about the life, everyone has his own taste about the life. The happiness is everywhere if you feel happy.
For this proverb, I thought, it may mean the sweet is there already, but if you didn't stir it, you will always taste the bitter coffee.

for me :  if we are stirring the coffer as  we drink  it , we are always tasting the  sweet all the time; so is  the life. Sometimes we always attention the  destination which  we want, but ignore the scenery on the long load which will make us feel more happy and sweet if we stir it and pay some attention. Life can be more happy and   sweet as long as we pay attention to the process,enjoy it .
