The antioxidant activity of EERAO increased in a dose dependent manner. In DPPH radical scavenging assay the IC50 value of the extract was found to be 2.31 mg/ml. EERAO was also found to inhibit the hydroxyl radical generated by 1,10-phenanthroline-Fe(2+)-H(2)O(2), where the IC50 value of EERAO was found to be 1.99 mg/ml. Moreover, EERAO was found to inhibit the Superoxide Anion radicals generated from Pyrogallol autoxidation method. The IC50 value of EERAO was found to be 0.21mg/ml, whereas the IC50 value of BHA was 2.67 mg/ml, which indicates the prooxidant activity of EERAO.
