摘要: The present study was carried out to evaluate the antioxidant and free radical scavenging activity of ethanol extract of Rhizoma Alpiniae Officinarum(EERAO) in various assay, including DPPH radical, superoxide anion radical and hydroxyl radical scavenging assays. The antioxidant activity of EERAO increased in a dose dependent manner. In DPPH radical scavenging assay the IC50 value of the extract was found to be 2.31 mg/ml. EERAO was also found to inhibit the hydroxyl radical generated by 1,10-phenanthroline-Fe(2+)-H(2)O(2), where the IC50 value of EERAO was found to be 1.99 mg/ml. Moreover, EERAO was found to inhibit the Superoxide Anion radicals generated from Pyrogallol autoxidation method. The IC50 value of EERAO was found to be 0.21mg/ml, whereas the IC50 value of BHA was 2.67 mg/ml, which indicates the prooxidant activity of EERAO. The results obtained in the present study indicate that the EERAO can be a potential source of natural antioxidant.
