Oh. Are you from southern China? In some places, certain festivals are less important than others, this is true.

once i had lived in loess cave dwelling for three months last year.I used to live in the north for four years.although，i am a southerner，but north is my second hometown.anyway，my ancestors come from north.

time goes on, generally and physically, people's lives become better than ever before, while their metal happiness seems develop differently.
in my hometown, we also made lattern ourselves, which is called "yangdeng", or "Kunming deng". in which, also a cage shape like a barrel braided by pieces of bamboo, and covered with red papers. it's bigger than usual lattern(about 1m in diameter), demanding several boys & girls to make it.
interestingly, it's wick is not candle, but cotton that dipped in a small can filled with kerosene(sometimes, gasoline is also mixed in the liquid to help producting the hot air) so that when the big lattern is fired on, the hot air will dirve it upward.
Many things people doing not only for fun, showing their talents and braveness, but also a kind of cultural inheriting from the old generations.
Gonna do my homework now.....
