Synthesis and Biological Applications of Foldamers
(artificial folded oligomers)

In the context of a bilateral agreement between the CHINA SCHOLARSHIP
COUNCIL and the UNIVERSITY OF BORDEAUX 1, FRANCE, a PhD position will be
open to a Chinese Candidate in the research group of Dr Ivan Huc at the European
Institute of Chemistry and Biology (IECB), University of Bordeaux, France starting
in the fall 2013. IECB offers an international environment with state of the art
facilities for research at the chemistry/biology interface.

The research subject deals with the stepwise solid phase and solution phase
combinatorial synthesis and screening of artificial folded oligomers that mimic the
structure of peptides and proteins for the purpose of recognizing the surface of
proteins of therapeutic interest. See the group website for details of the team's

Candidates should hold a Master degree before the start of the thesis, and be
eligible to the CSC program. They should have an strong track record, preferably
in at least two of the following:
- peptide synthesis and purification
- synthetic chemistry
- combinatorial chemistry
- supramolecular chemistry

A very good command of English is indispensable. No prior knowledge of
French is required.
