[½»Á÷] The structure of American house and Chinese house

I have been thinking about this for a very long time. The structure of American house and Chines House. The difference.

Have you ever noticed this?

First, please see some photos of houses I took in USA.

These are of typical structures of houses in Cincinnati. A typical house includes a basement, where washing machines, dryers are kept, with things they do  not use at present. Often, air conditioner, heating burners are also in basements.

On the first floor, there are a kitchen, a dinning room and a living room, with one or two bathrooms.  Bedrooms are often on the second floor, if the house has a second floor.

A house often has its own garage. Often, a house has one entrance.

Around the house, there is a lawn.

I am from northern China, the Siheyuan, a square shaped yard with several houses on each side, is the typical structure, each house has its own entrance, there is often no corridor between different houses. So, when it is raining, if you go to another house, you have to use an umbrella, or you will become wet a little. Another shortage of the Siheyuan in northern China is that it is difficult to keep warm in winter and keep cool in summer, because there are too many entrances and too many windows and walls contacting the outside air. So, this structure is energy-consuming. So, in many places, it is often cold in such a house in winter.

What's the traditional house structure in southern China? I am not sure, but when I travelled to southern China, I saw many buildings in countryside, these buildings are often multi-story and have one entrance.

So, compared with the house with only one entrance, the Siheyuan structure is less convenient. Nowadays, people are still building such houses in northern China.

I hope some architects can pay some attention to the rural buildings and design some buildings with convenient structures for our folks.

winter_north: ½ð±Ò+6, Thank you for sharing facts in your hometown in southern China. In fact, the cubic houses abound in northern China at present. Some houses like those in the pictures were built before WWII, so, sometimes I wonder why they can build so beautiful houses so many years ago, while our folks are still building ugly structures after nearly 100 years? 2013-02-12 10:17:38
i like the pictures you photoed.the houses are very beautiful£¬and the air£¬the cloud£¬the trees£¬the lawn£¬the colour of the house in there are so harmonious.
i am in a small village at south china.house in my hometown have changed very much.back to ten years all houses in my hometown are alike.looking like a cube plus a cap on.the structure was very popular£¬because it is convenient.it looks like our economical housing in city£¬no personality  and always two and half floors.
these years people become more and more richer.some of them built the house s which look like palace.the houses are become more beautiful£¬but the environment become more bad .

winter_north: ½ð±Ò+3, Too often, I think Siheyuan reflects the classification in a family, the primary building is for the master of this family, in the history, the side buildings are for children and servants. I think, as times goes on, we need modifications of the traditional structure. 2013-02-12 22:49:37
I'm always curious about the Siheyuan, because I only have seen it in some TV plays...
but I like the American houses very much... the environment is harmonious, the colors are rich, the structure is humanizing...
