US 4950478 Cosmetics containing phototoxic natural essences and benzylidenecamphor derivatives By: Lang, Gerard; Deflandre, Andre; Beck, Irena Assignee: Oreal S. A., Fr. Cosmetics contg. a natural fragrance with a phototoxic level of furocoumarins also contains 0.01-2% by wt. of at least 1 benzylidenecamphor deriv. absorber of UVA radiation to decrease the phototoxicity. A benzylidenecamphor deriv. absorbing UVB radiation may be added also. A shaving cream contained: natural fragrance contg. 50% bergamot oil 1.5, triethanolamine terephthalylidene-3,3'-dicamphor-10-sulfonate (I) [90394-37-9] 0.4, p-methylbenzylidenecamphor (II) [36861-47-9] 0.2, stearic acid 25, coconut oil 8, olive oil 2, cetyl alc. 1, sorbitol 3.5, 7.3N KOH 18, 9.5N NaOH 2.5, and H2O to 100 g. US 5000961 Preparation of tert-butylbenzylidenecamphors as drugs and cosmetics By: Lang, Gerard; Forestier, Serge; Lagrange, Alain; Moire, Claudine; Deflandre, Andre Assignee: Oreal S. A., Fr. The title compds. (I; R = H, Me3C; R1 = C1-8 alkyl, alkoxy; R2, R3 = H, OH; ≥1 of R2, R3 = OH), useful as antioxidants, light absorbers, and for prevention of inflammation, allergy, and cancer (no data), were prepd. A mixt. of DL-camphor, NaH, and 1,2-dimethoxyethane was refluxed 1 h and 3-tert-butyl-2-hydroxy-5-methoxybenzaldehyde in 1,2-dimethoxyethane was added.
