Architecturing Hierarchical Function Layers on Self-Assembled Viral Templates as 3D Nano-Array Electrodes for Integrated Li-ion Microbatteries

Abstract
This work enables an elegant bottom-up solution to engineer 3D macro-batteries as integral power sources for micro-electronics. Thus, multilayer functional materials were hierarchically architectured over Tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) templates that were genetically-modified to self-assemble in a vertical manner on current-collectors, so that optimum power and energy densities accompanied with excellent cycle-life could be achieved on a minimum footprint. The resultant micro-battery based on self-aligned LiFePO4 nanoforests of shell-core-shell structure, with precise arrangement of various auxiliary material layers including a nanometallic central core as direct electronic pathway to current collector, delivers excellent power and energy density as well as stable cycling stability that are only rivaled by the best Li-ion batteries of conventional configurations while providing rate performance per foot-print and on-site manufacturability unavailable from the latter. This approach could open a new avenue for micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) applications, which would significantly benefit from the concept that electrochemically active components be directly engineered and fabricated as an integral part of the integrated circuit (IC).

低温是指-40℃下,电池的放电容量能达到正常温度下的多少?以及循环性能如何?
当然,是在不需要外部加热的条件下,如何实现电池的放电.....

呵呵,这个材料还有很多机会发NS系列,主要是储存相变机理的研究:
(1) Is there an intermediate phase existing during the Li+-ion insertion/extraction process of LiFePO4? (2) If an intermediate phase exists, is it composed of a solid solution (LixFePO4) or is it just an ordering of the two end-members (LiFePO4 and FePO4)? (3) What is the geometry  of  the  interface  between  FePO4  and  LiFePO4?  (4) Where is the second phase nucleated? (5) What is the dynamics of the Li-motion within this material? (6) Is it possible to drive the well-established two-phase insertion process into a single-phase one at room temperature?
