That was thetake-home message last week from an Institute of Medicine (IOM) panel that CIRM had commissioned to review its operations. The IOM panel recommended that board members be excluded from grant review committees, and it suggested curtailing the board’s role in CIRM’s daily operations. It also recommended diversifying the board with more independent voices and more industry representatives, whose help will be needed to achieve CIRM’s stated goal of developing stem cell treatments.
