DOE already has three hubs in other places working on generating fuels from sunlight, modeling of nuclear reactors, and increasing the energy efficiency of buildings. A fifth hub on relatively scarce “critical materials” has yet to be sited. 美国能源部宣布，Argonne国家实验室将会在未来5年内收到一笔1.2亿美元的资助，创建一个致力于电池和能源存储研究的科学“中心”。能源部（DOE）已经在其它地方建立了三个中心，分别研究光致燃料，核反应堆建模和提高建筑物能源利用效率。目前还没有确定研究相对稀有“关键材料”的第四个中心要部署在什么地方。 The brainchild of Secretary of Energy Steven Chu, the hubs are supposed to recreate the more focused, yet free-wheeling culture with which Bells Labs and the Manhattan Project addressed specific scientific challenges.
