confound 愿意是混淆、混杂的意思expectations本意是预期和期望之意 我觉得这个语境下可以理解confounding expectations

翻译：科学研究的领域里经常会有“有意栽花花不成，无心插柳柳成荫”的情况，暗物质的发现就正好是这样的一个例子。
