However, because of the poor aqueous solubility and low therapeutic index of PTX, the clinical application is extremely limited. Presently, the only available formulation of PTX for clinical use is Taxol, containing Cremophor EL (polyethoxylated castor oil) and dehydrated ethanol in a 50:50 (v/v) ratio to solve solubility concerns and to increase its bioavailability.
