o High impact and high value scientific collaboration opportunities in technologies relevant to crop protection
¡°Collaboration¡± in its broadest sense, to include in- and out-licensing, venture capital investment, etc. Not including procurement of goods or services.
An in-flow of relevant, cutting-edge scientific and competitor knowledge into Syngenta
Enhanced reputation and influence in the outside world
Enhanced competitive edge through early identification and accelerated application of potentially disruptive, game-changing technologies

Accountabilities
To understand Syngenta¡¯s technology needs, focusing on technologies relevant to crop protection
To understand the technology landscape in China and how it aligns with the global picture, and to understand the unique features, for instance:
o Potential options for leveraged funding
o Location of Centres of Excellence in relevant science and technology areas
To develop and implement a China crop protection scouting strategy based on available resources and focussed on extracting maximum return on investment
To identify impactful and valuable collaboration opportunities and to feed a stream of such opportunities into the Syngenta evaluation system. These opportunities should be focused on, but not limited to, technologies relevant to crop protection.
To raise awareness of Syngenta and our brand at external institutions
To develop an understanding of what our competitors are doing and with whom in China
To co-create and co-develop particularly high value opportunities in partnership with potential external collaborators
To ensure an in-flow of cutting-edge science into Syngenta
To identify and recruit relevant Syngenta employees into the scouting network
To take over responsibility for currently ongoing crop protection-related collaborations in China

Critical success factors & key challenges

To establish a stream of crop protection collaboration opportunities for evaluation which ultimately lead to signed deals
To establish a good working relationship with Syngenta teams in China ¨C leveraging local colleagues
To develop technology landscape for China
To resolve any potential tensions and conflicts, for instance between region/territory and global at crop level
To build and maintain a network of key external contacts
