The Li−air battery is a very promising energy storage technology. Experimental studies and theoretical calculations have shown that the Li−air battery has a potential to provide four times higher specific energy than state-of-the art Li ion
batteries.5,7 Its cost is also expected to be much lower than Li ion batteries. However, current the Li−air battery is limited by its poor power density, poor cyclability, and low round-trip energy efficiency. Electrocatalysts have been shown to significantly improve both power density and round-trip energy efficiency, even though the sustainable discharge/charge of the Li−air battery with these electrocatalysts has not been fully verified, mainly because of the instability of the electrolytes. In this article, we have reviewed and given a perspective on the
