In text citation of figures and references should be in sequential order
我理解是：正文中引用的图和文献应该采用连续编号。
我的情况是在正文中分别引用了两篇文章的图，这样描述的，... refer to Fig. 6 in Ref. 22 and Fig. 1 of Ref. 23。因为这句话之前引用文献已经编到了22，所以我觉得这么描述应该没有问题吧。不知道编辑什么意思。或者是不是指其他的问题？请教
这样的话你还是应该重新命名。在图表的上方注明图1、图2，下方括号内标注来源：(Reprinted from “Title,” by author, year, journal, volume, issue, page.)
不过一般应与原作者联系取得允许使用的授权，然后加上 Adapted with permission.
