[交流] what restrict or decided species's size

today,my daughter ask me why the tree is so high but the flowers are so low.i just told her it's the diffence of species,they have different genes.just like adult mouse is so little,however ,the baby elephant is so large.
but the question is i really don't know why.i don't know what and how restrict or decide it.who can tell me ?please ,thancks!


thanks everybody!may be she can't understand any answers,because shi is just half and three years old.but i want try my best to answer her's any questions.i hope she can found the world is so interesting ,curious and beautiful.
hehe,may be one day she can realy find the causes.

The size of a species is mainly determined by two factors. One is the gene which determines the general characters of the same species. The other is the environments where the species lives in. If the environmental factors are constant, the size of the species will not change a lot compared with different individals. If the environmental factors abruptly change, the size of the species probably has a big change which is beyond the individual difference. The answer is so easy that it is impossible to give a full explanation to illustrate the size difference between different species. But I believe that it is enough to let your daughter know why there are different sizes for different species.

I think some questions like these I also dont know the answers.
But sometimes my son's question also make me embarrassed. I also somtimes have noting to explained for him. But when I have nothing to say I always say sth else to him and take him to another questions.
But I know this is a escape for him because he is so yong now and cant distingwish it now. But I dont know when he became older and older and how can I to explained for him so many things?
Maybe this is also a chance for me to study everyday! I must be a employable mother in her childhood. So now when I see sth I will think my son's question and find a reason!
haha, I must be study everyday for a very simple but very difficult to answer's question!
