Tn4351contains two antibiotic
resistance genes—one that confers r esistance to erythromycin (Emr)in P. gingivalis and another that confers r esistance to tetracycline (Tcr) in aerobically grown E. coli. Note that Em selection will work in P. gingivalis and T c s election in E. coli ; however, the reverse is not the case. Since R751::Tn 43514 is unable to replicate in P. gingivalis cells, any Emr P. gingivalis transconjugant s hould be generated b y t ransposition of Tn 4351 from R751::Tn 43514to the P. gingivalis chromosome.
