Running the Marathon


It is a nice sunny day today, fine and warm, with the temperature about 21 degree here. And it's also a meaningful day for me, coz I run a marathon in the morning with more then thirty thousands people concluding professional contingent and marathon amateurs. Well, me, with my friends, enrolled the mini type which is only 9 kilometers, just only for some soy sauce. You know, nothing is more important than participation, right?

The marathon competition begun 8:30 this morning, since there was a longer distance between the venue and our college, we had to get up at 6:00 to take bus getting there. Although we were so tired, all of us were so excited, coz it was the first time for us to take the marathon. After we arrived, a sea of people leaped to the eyes, so crowd that we almost couldn't see what happened in the front. Since this marathon competition is the selective trial for national marathon championship and the Olympic Games in London, there were so many person joined, the professional, amateurs, citizens who like physical exercise, and we students; and we also saw some foreigners, this could be seen from the following picture.

When we arrived at 8 kilometers, I was dead tired and reluctant to move my foot. But my good friend told me that once you gave up moving, you would feel even more tired, and I was so moved that she hold my hands pulling me forward. Finally, after an hour and a quarter we arrived the finishing line in the specific time. Yeah, we made it.


Well, the reason I took the marathon is that I want to form a habit of doing physical exercise to keep fit. Wish I could insist do sports in the coming days. And you all could take exercise to keep healthy, it's great.

And running is a very popular sport. Millions of people run because they enjoy it or want to be in good physical shape. Daily running improves a person¡¯s physical condition. It helps oxygen circulate through your body and it makes your heart and leg muscles stronger. Running helps you control your weight because when you run your burn up a lot of calories. It also helps you fight off stress after a tiring day in school or at work.

The marathon is the longest running event in the world. Its name goes back to the story of a Greek soldier who, in 490 B.C. , ran from the small village of Marathon to Athens, about 40 km away. He wanted to tell the people there that the Greek army had defeated the Persians. Today, the official marathon has a length of 42.195 km. The marathon has always been one of the main highlights of the modern Olympic Games, which started in 1896.
