[交流] PhD position

Protein folding and maturation can differ substantially between newly synthesized proteins and in vitro refolded proteins. In classical folding studies, formerly folded proteins need to be unfolded before the (re-)folding process can be studied. However it has been shown that protein folding takes place already during the elongation of the nascent chain (co-translational folding). Therefore, one major goal is to understand how polypeptide chain elongation and folding are coupled. Single-molecule studies can yield valuable information about these processes.

In this respect we are looking for a
Ph.D. student to join our research on single molecule protein folding. In this project the candidate will have the chance to conduct interdisciplinary research with focus in molecular biology and fluorescence microscopy. He/she will design constructs and study them in the fluorescence microscope in order to get a better insight of cotranslational protein folding in a single molecule level.

The work will be conducted in the Forschungszentrum Jülich, one of the largest and best equipped research centers in Europe, which offers a highly interdisciplinary environment. Our group is taking part in the International Helmholtz Research School of Biophysics and Soft Matter (IHRS BioSoft) and a suitable candidate has also the chance to conduct his Ph.D. through this research school.
