Both reactors were fed with synthetic medium at 10.6 L/d, giving a HRT of 1.13 day. Internal and sludge recycle rates were 21.2 and 10.6 L/d, respectively. In both HSBNRs, the aerobic tanks contained attached and suspended cells at 1500 and 2500 mg volatile suspended solid (VSS) per liter, respectively. For routine operation, all biomass loss was in the effluent. In addition, separate biomass wasting was practiced once per month to obtain the desired average SRT. SRT. The average SRT of all biomass in the HSBNR reactors, computed as V(Xa + Xs) divided by (QeXe+QwXw), was 31土7 days after day 60. Xa, Xs, Xe,and Xw were, respectively, the biomass (VSS) concentrations attached to the media, in suspension, suspended in the effluent, and in the waste biomass. Qe and Qw were the effluent flow rate and the time-averaged waste-flow rate, respectively. Attached biomass in the aerobic tank was 37.5% of the total biomass. However, since it did not circulate through the anoxic tanks, it was
enriched in ammonium oxidizers, a feature demonstrated below。

将合成介质以10.6 L/d的速率通入两个反应池,水力停留时间设为1.13天。内循环和污泥循环速率分别是21.2和10.6 L/d。在两个HSBNR中,无氧池中的附着生物量和悬浮生物量(以挥发性悬浮固体(VSS)计)分别为1500 mg/L 和 2500 mg/L。在常规操作中,生物量减少的唯一渠道是随着出水而流失。此外,为保持必要的平均污泥停留时间,需要每月进行一次剩余污泥的分离/清除。六十天之后HSBNR中全部生物量的平均污泥停留时间为31 ± 7天。其计算方法如下:
V(Xa + Xs)/ (QeXe+QwXw)
其中Xa、Xs、 Xe、Xw分别是吸附在池壁的生物量(以VSS计)浓度,悬浮液中的生物量浓度,出水中悬浮生物量浓度,和剩余污泥中的生物量浓度。Qe和Qw分别是出水流率和平均剩余污泥分离/清除流率。在无氧池中,尽管附着生物量占总生物量的37.5%,但是这部分生物量不会流动到厌氧罐中,因此氨氧化细菌会在其中富集。该特性展示如下。
