The group of Prof. Dr. Dieter Neher at the University of Potsdam, Germany, invites applications for  the position of a

Postdoc/Project Leader in the field of “Charge Carrier Dynamics in Organic Semiconductors”

The  research  will  be  concerned  with  the  simulation  and/or  measurement  of  charge  carrier  generation and transport in heterogeneous layers of conjugated polymers.  

The  group  has  a  longstanding  experience  in  the  investigation  and  understanding  of  the  electrical,  optical and optoelectronic properties of  semiconducting polymers and oligomers,  Current topics of  research are:
    * Charge carrier generation and recombination in polymer-based solar cells
    * Charge transfer across inorganic-organic interfaces
    * Structural and electronic disorder in heterogeneous polymer layers
    *  Transport and relaxation of charge carriers
The  group  is  well  equipped  with  state-of-the-art  instrumentation  for  the  characterization  of  thin polymer layers (AFM, SNOM, SEM), and their steady-state and time-resolved optical and electronic properties (including transient EL, photo-CELIV, time-delayed collection fields).  

The successful candidate is expected to advance the understanding of charge carrier dynamics by e.g. developing novel simulation tools or by improving the resolution of the instrumentation with respect  to  time/space/energy.  He/she  is  also  invited  to  supervise  Master-  and  PhD  students  and  to  contribute   to   teaching   of   undergraduate   and   graduate   students   in   the   field   of   Organic Semiconductors.  The  position  is  fully  funded  by  the  university,  rather  than  a  third  party.  The candidate is free to pursue his or her own research interests and to make funding applications as PI.

We encourage applications from highly skilled and experienced researchers with a degree in Physics  or  Chemical  Physics  and  relevant  doctoral  or  post-doctoral  experience.  The  appointment  will  be  initially for two years, with possible renewal up to a maximum of five years. The position is suited for scientists pursuing an academic career, particularly those aiming at a habilitation at the University of
Potsdam.

The  University  is  located  by  the  historic  city  of Potsdam  on  the  outskirts of  Berlin.  Candidates  can enjoy a high quality of life combining the beautiful lakes, forests  and gardens of Potsdam with the vibrant  international  city  culture  of  Berlin.  Good  written  and  spoken  English  is  necessary,  but knowledge of German is not required.
