Poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase(PARP-1 and PARP-2) are the key enzymes responded to the DNA damage by the process of base excision DNA repair (BER) pathway to maintain the life circle of cell survive and proliferation.

It has been reported that PARP inhibitors could potentiate the antitumor effects of chemotherapies and radiation therapy. Most importantly, PARP inhibitors could selectively kill cancer cells with BRCA (BRCA-1 and BRCA-2) defects which are lack of homologous recombination (HR) pathway of double-stranded DNA repair. These research results make PARP to be a potentially important therapeutic target for cancer patients.

多腺苷二磷酸多聚酶(PARP-1 及PARP-2) 是DNA碱基切除修复过程中负责DNA损伤修复，是维系细胞生存、增殖的关键酶。

有报道称，PARP抑制剂能够加强化疗、放疗的抑癌效果。更重要的是，PARP抑制剂能够选择性杀死BRCA缺陷（BRCA-1 和BRCA-2）的癌细胞，BRCA缺陷的细胞丢失双链DNA重组路径。这些表明，PARP有可能成为癌症治疗新靶点。
