Two main causes of gel cracking have been
identified: (1) Evaporation of solvents during the drying
step, which occurs specifically on the outer surface of the
capillary network, since the solid material at the drying
front is exposed to ambient atmosphere. Shrinking results
from stress caused by the existence of a meniscus at the
liquid–vapour interface, which generates a differential
capillary pressure within the gel as the solvent tends to
evaporate [10]. (2) The syneresis which takes place as the
gel ages. This consists in the continuous rearrangement of
particles through further condensation reactions with the
associated loss of structural solvents (i.e., water and ethanol).
This process leads to a better packing of the gel body
and also to the undesirable process of fracturing.

翻译如下:
已确定凝胶破裂的两个主要原因:(1)由于在正面干燥的固体材料暴露于外周空气中,尤其是在毛细管网外表面发生的干燥步骤期间溶剂蒸发。由于在液-汽界面弯月形面(meniscus)的存在导致的压力产生缩水的结果,其中所述界面随着溶剂挥发,在凝胶内产生毛细管压力的差异。(2)脱水代替成为凝胶的老化(ages)。通过伴随结构溶剂(即,水和乙醇)共同损失,这些脱水过程存在于粒子连续重排过程之中。这个过程导致更佳的凝胶主体填装,也导致不期望的破裂过程。

意思应该没有错误,中间有些词语需要斟酌,供参考!

凝胶破裂的两个主要原因已被确定:(1)溶剂在干燥步骤发生蒸发,特别是在毛细血管网的外表面,原因是干燥前沿的固体材料被暴露在周围空气中。气液界面的弯液面生成的压力会导致收缩,又因溶剂倾向于蒸发,从而在凝胶内生成一个毛细管压力差[10]。(2)随着凝胶老化发生脱水收缩。这发生在粒子经进一步缩合反应连续重排遗失结果溶剂(如水和乙醇)的过程中。这一过程导致凝胶体更加聚集和不良破裂。
