PhD position at the interface of organic chemistry and materials science Empa Esther Z¨¹rcher Human Resources Lerchenfeldstrasse 5 9014 St. Gallen Switzerland www.empa.ch We are currently looking for an outstanding candidate with qualifications in Organic or Polymer Chemistry for a PhD-position in the field of "Green polymer additives for bio-plastics¡±. The ideal candidate has a strong background in organic synthesis, preferably with experience related to functionalization of renewable raw materials (sugars, terpenes, etc.). Additional experience in materials science and compounding would be beneficial. A strong desire to work at the leading edge of materials technology and synthetic chemistry, as well as a high level of motivation to work in an international, multidisciplinary research team in the field of biomaterials science are essential. Knowledge of English (oral and written) is required; knowledge of German would be an advantage. The candidate will be part of the Marie Curie FP7 International Training Network (ITN) REFINE together with several academic and industrial partners throughout Europe (UK, Ireland, Netherlands, Sweden, Austria and Italy). The position includes interdisciplinary training, summer schools and yearly international meetings with the partners of the consortium and will be available from summer 2012 and is set for 36 months. Applicants for this PhD-position must not have resided or carried out their main work activity (work, studies, etc.) in Switzerland for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the recruitment.
