Çë×Ô¼ºÁªÏµ The ¡°Structural Glycobiology¡± group is looking for a motivated and ambitious PhD candidate, holding a Diploma/MSc in Biochemistry or related subjects. We are part of the Department of Biomolecular Systems at the Max-Planck-Institute of Colloids and Interfaces in Berlin-Dahlem. Many members of the C-type lectin family are expressed on defined sets of mammalian tissues and are involved in various aspects of cell biology and physiology. Hence, these proteins resemble interesting targets for the development of specific molecular probes to study their function. Therefore, this project combines our interest in basic research in the field of biophysical characterization of ligand/target interactions and small molecule ligand design as well as applied studies into glycobiology. The candidate will use nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and other biophysical techniques to study the receptor recognition process and to conduct screening towards the development of high affinity ligands for C-type lectins. The ligands will then be used to perform functional in vitro studies to answer important questions in the field of glycobiology and immunology. The candidate is expected to be: • a motivated team worker. • confident in spoken and written English. • equipped with strong experimental and analytical skills. In particular, solid skills in cloning, protein expression/purification in bacterial systems and interest in the development of practical and theoretical skills in NMR spectroscopy are required. We offer: The Department of Biomolecular Systems is a well-equipped research facility that provides stimulating ground for scientific progress in an international, multidisciplinary research environment. A comprehensive repertoire of instruments stands alongside with high-profile collaborators embedded in a fruitful research spectrum covering synthetic chemistry, biochemistry, nanotechnology, immunology and biophysics. Methoden: Protein expression and purification, nuclear magnetic resonance, surface plasmon resonance, fragment-based drug design, screening, cell-culture, FACS. Anfangsdatum: 1. März 2012 geschätzte Dauer: 3 years Bezahlung: available. Homepage: http://www.mpikg.mpg.de/Biomolek ... obiology/index.html Please submit your electronic application to Dr. Christoph Rademacher comprising a curriculum vitae (including references to scientific publications, posters and talks), your high school, BSc and MSc certificates. Also give a letter of recommendation from a Professor (preferably Diploma, MSc thesis advisor) and a short summary of the Diploma/MSc thesis work. Submission deadline is 15.01.2012 and the position will be available from March 2012. |
