Only book to cover the broad range of topics for automobile design and analysis procedures Each topic written by an expert with many years experience of the automotive industry -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: 2004-03-17 Rating: 2 Review: 100 pages of information stretched into a 550 page book "An Introduction to Modern Vehicle Design" is typical of what is wrong with technical writing and text books today. The writers spend so much time constructing elegant sentences, perfecting grammar and using large words that they neglect the content. More emphasis is placed on the size of the book than the quality of the information inside. The book is a relatively easy read that touches on almost every part of the design process though it touches very lightly. I don't believe that anyone but the freshest newcomer with no knowledge of cars will learn much from this book. If I didn't already have a shelf full of excellent references waiting for my attention I would not have felt so bad about wasting my time with this text but hindsight being 20/20 I would have passed on this book. Hucho and Milliken provide better overviews of automotive engineering though neither professes to be as all encompassing as Happian-Smith attempted. A+ for effort but needs improvement.
