Reviewer 1. The manuscript reports on an interesting and original copper base catalyst well characterized in its main surface and bulk properties and compared with similar and more conventionally prepared copper systems. The manuscript is well written and it has been well organized in several sections which appropriately described the various items of the developed work. The results are well described and the conclusions made by the authors are well supported by the experimental observations. Solid base catalysts are not actually well developed as well as the acidic ones and much work has to be made to obtain useful base catalysts for applicative purposes. For all these reasons, the present manuscript deserves publication in Applied Catalysis B.

In this contribution, Yuan and co-workers described an interesting study concerning hydrogenolysis of glycerol to 1,2-propanediol. The authors have mainly studied the effects of catalyst preparation method on Cu dispersion and how this affects the activity of the catalyst and the selectivity to desired product. In general, there are some conclusions that are supported by the results, but there are some others that should be improved or addressed better.
