Dear Colleagues, please distribute this to potentially interested candidates: The Computational Aerosol Physics group at the University of Helsinki, Finland is looking for PhD students and post-doctoral researchers to work with research topics relevant to the group. The Computational Aerosol Physics group, led by professor Hanna Vehkamäki, applies a large variety of theoretical and simulation methods to investigate the nucleation of molecular clusters in the atmosphere. Professor Vehkamäki has recently received the prestigious European Research Council starting grant. The 10-member group is part of the world-leading Centre of Excellence for Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Meteorology of Atmospheric Composition and Climate Change, headed by Academy Professor Markku Kulmala. The University of Helsinki, founded in 1640, is the oldest and highest-ranking university in Finland. With almost 8 500 employees and 36 000 students, it is also one of the largest universities in the Nordic countries. The successful candidate will have a MSc or PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Meteorology, Materials Science, Computer Science or related disciplines. Experience of modeling molecular clusters and/or phase change processes, as well as knowledge of computational chemistry software and programming languages, are also desirable. Possible research topics include (but are not limited to): -Combining classical (liquid-drop) nucleation models with quantum chemical data -Computational chemistry simulations of ice nucleation -Simulating dynamic phenomena in the nucleation of atmospherically relevant real molecular systems The standard contract periods are 4 years for PhD students and 2 years for post-doctoral researchers, with possibilities for extensions. Typical starting salary ranges (before taxes) at the University of Helsinki are 2200-2500 ?/month for PhD students and 3100-3600?/month for post-doctoral researchers.
