Postdoctoral Position in Experimental Molecular Astrophysics The Columbia University Astrophysics Laboratory is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist position in Experimental Molecular Astrophysics. The successful candidate will join the group headed by Dr. Daniel Wolf Savin. S/he will a) participate in measurements of dissociative recombination to be carried out at the TSR heavy ion storage ring located at the Max Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics (MPIK) in Heidelberg, Germany; b) perform Coloumb explosion studies of molecular structure also at TSR; and c) participate in the construction and design of molecular astrophysics experiments utilizing the electrostatic Cryogenic Storage Ring (CSR) currently under construction at MPIK. The research is being carried out in collaboration with the group of Prof. Dr. Andreas Wolf at MPIK. The position will be located at MPIK and is initially for one year. It is expected to be available starting December 1, 2011. Up to two additional years are possible depending upon the availability of funding and mutual satisfaction. Screening of applicants will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. Laboratory skills required include single particle detectors and the associated electronics, magnetically guided electron beams, understanding of accelerator and storage ring physics, and ultrahigh vacuum systems. Computer skills required include programming, multidimensional data analysis, Linux OS, and Windows OS. The applicant should have a strong background related to at least some of these areas listed above. Also required are demonstrated written and oral communication skills, proven research ability, evidence of future research projects, and the ability to work both independently and cooperatively with others. Applicants should submit via email a letter of interest, a curriculum vitae (including a list of publications), and a statement of research activities and laboratory experience directly to Dr. Daniel Wolf Savin at savin@astro.columbia.edu. Additionally they should have three letters of recommendation sent via email directly by the letter writers to Dr. Savin. *********************************************************************** Daniel Wolf Savin Columbia Astrophysics Laboratory 550 West 120th Street, MC 5247 New York, NY 10027, USA Office: 212-854-4124 Lab: 914-591-2874 Fax: 212-854-8121 Cell: 646-707-4937 email: savin@astro.columbia.edu web page: http://www.astro.columbia.edu/~savin |
