Compound 2 is a mixed-valence pentanuclear cobalt complex and crystallises in the monoclinic C2/c space group (Fig. 3). The central cobalt(II) ion (Co4) has a distorted octahedral coordination sphere comprising oxygen donor atoms from the ligand CH 2 O - arms, a bridging acac ligand and a monodentate MeOH group. The outer cobalt(II) ions (Co2, Co5) have distorted octahedral { CoO 6 } coordination spheres. Co5 is ligated by four oxygen donors from the ligand alkoxide arms and a further two from a chelating acac group. Co2 is bound to two ligand alkoxide arms and four oxygen atoms from two acac groups. These three Co(II) centres form a coupled trinuclear unit, while the remaining two cobalt centres (Co3 and Co6) are trivalent and are each encapsulated by one H 2 L 4- ligand, giving an { N 2 O 4 } ligand donor set. Oxidation states were assigned on the basis of bond valence sum calculations, by consideration of bond lengths and charge balance. |

| 化合物2是一个混合价态的五元环的钴复合物，可以在单斜的C2/c空间基团中体现出来。中心的二价钴离子（4号钴原子）有一个扭曲的八面体配位的球体，这其中的配体包含有来自于配体中CH2O（亚甲氧基）键中的供电子的氧原子、一个桥联的acac（乙酰丙酮基）配体和一个单齿MeOH基团。外部的二价钴离子（2.5号钴）有扭曲的八面体（CoO6，六氧化钴，一个Co和六个O配位）配位的球体。5号钴与来自于四个配体烷氧键中的氧原子和一个acac基团中两个氧配位。2号钴与来自于两个配体烷氧键中的氧原子和两个acac基团中的四个氧原子配位。这三个二价钴中心形成了一个耦合的三元环单元，而剩下的两个钴中心（3，6号钴）则是三价的，而且它们每个都和一个H2L4-的基团配位，产生了一个（N2O4）的配体供体。考虑到键长和价态平衡，氧化态须建立在价键总数计算的基础上。 |
