For aprotic solvents , attractive interactions between particles become greater than those observed in ethanol. Agglomerates of SiO2-ST are formed as the alkoxysilane polymerizes, resulting in the formation of a particulate gel structure. Then, TEOS can polymerize on the agglomerates and between the cavities formed by the aggregates of the colloidal silica added. Thus, a decrease in the final porosity of the composites is generated. The resultant material is more compact, with high roughness. |
