Partially austenitic regions At a sufficiently large distance from the fusion boundary, the peak temperature is suchl ow that the steel cannot transform completely to austenite.The small amount of austenite that does form has a larger carbon concentration.This is because the solubility of carbon in austenite, which is in equilibrium with ferrite, increases as the temperature decreases. The subsequent transformation behaviour of this enriched austenite is then quite different, since it has a higher hardenability. |

| The recystallized zone in HAZ means the fine-grained zone undergone phase transformation. This zone experiences temperature higher than Ac3 but not so much to cause grain growth. Consequently, during cooling process it transforms form austenite to fine grained ferrite. |
