Abstract 1 ¨C Hydroxypyrene was synthesized in two methods with pyrene as starting material. In one method, first 1 - nitro-pyrene were synthesized in mixed system of copper nitrate trihydrate and acetic oxide after addition of pyrene. 1-nitro-pyrene was reduced to 1 - amino-pyrene, which was then transformed to final product 1 ¨C hydroxypyrene after diazotization. In another method, pyrene first reacts with bromine to yield 1-bromo pyrene. This process is based on controlled usage of bromine. 1-Bromo pyrene was added to sodium methoxide solution to yield 1- methoxy pyrene with CuI and DMF applicated in the same solution. 1- Methoxy pyrene was dissolved in dichloromethane and transformed into 1-hydroxypyrene with aluminum chloride breaking ether bond. The synthesis process was traced with TLC and product was characterized qualitatively with IR |
