We can't deny that it's a worrying situation that the farmlands are wasted with farmers working in the city. Take my village as an example, ten years ago, there were few farmers go out of the countryside. They were just industrious peasants who worked on the fields and surported themselves. They led a self-sufficient rural life. But they never had much savings. In fact, however hard they worked, little could they gain. It was not easy for them. Then the modern life and high salary in big cities become great temptation. They don't need to work day and night on the crops, they can earn a considerable salary, compared with their previous job in the countryside, In all, it's an advantage to work in big cities since they can make more money, thus live more happily without much economical burden. It couldn't be better for them. So more and more farmers are flowing into cities to make a living, with the farmlands deserted. I can't tell it's good or not. With the advanced technology, we can produce food with less lands and labor. Farmers can buy foods instead of producing them with a low efficiency. So it's a optimum distribution of labour. Maybe it's not so bad. However, prolems come with advances, there are surely way out! |
