phu_grassman(金币+5, ESEPI+1): Maybe Your worry is needed. Problems come with development, but there is always a way out. 2011-06-12 22:57:35
I worry about Chinese feature agriculture, on one side is about the decreasing amount of farmers, and the other side is about food security.
There is a saying,"Good harvest depends on the weather". Although the Government has released many acts to encourage farmers, yet compared with other high-benefit fields, such as industry or service, more and more young farmers are attracted to work outside of their farmlands. And another problem of  food security is maybe caused by some advanced agricultural research, for exampel of the well-known "transgene crops". It reflects the side effect of the science.  So, from the above brief reasons, I feel pity and dissappointed.

lppv(金币+5, ESEPI+1): nice, I also believe that there are surely ways out!! 2011-07-04 14:05:55
We can't deny that it's a worrying situation that the farmlands are wasted with farmers working in the city. Take my village as an example, ten years ago, there were few farmers go out of the countryside. They were just industrious peasants who worked on the fields and surported themselves. They led a self-sufficient rural life. But they never had much savings. In fact, however hard they worked, little could they gain. It was not easy for them. Then the modern life and high salary in big cities become great temptation. They don't need to work day and night on the crops, they can earn a considerable salary, compared with their previous job in the countryside, In all, it's an advantage to work in big cities since they can make more money, thus live more happily without much economical burden. It couldn't be better for them. So more and more farmers are flowing into cities to make a living, with the farmlands deserted.
I can't tell it's good or not. With the advanced technology, we can produce food with less lands and labor. Farmers can buy foods instead of producing them with a low efficiency. So it's a optimum distribution of labour. Maybe it's not so bad.
However, prolems come with advances, there are surely way out!

As farming land of China has been greatly decreased, some people began to worry about the food problem of China in the coming years. Do you think that China can feed its people in 20 years later? G ...

This is a problem deserving study.
Facing this problem, it is no doubt that it is impossible for us to solve them completely, but we should take some messures to alleviate such situation.
There are several ways about it.
firstly, we should increase crop yield through science and technology,
YuanLongPing`s hybrid rice is a case in piont.
secondly, our government should enact the relevant laws to protect our current cultivate land from being damaged or being used to other purposes.
thirdly, we make use of cultivate land as efficiently as possible.
fourthly, we should decrease waste of food as much as possible.
.............
please cherish food, no one can do without it.
