It is an important and challenging work to design and synthesize metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with specific properties, while introduction of the mechanism of reactions shades light on this scientific problems.

说说我的想法吧。LZ翻译的很好，不过我认为：1）句子的主语不宜太长，否则会有头重脚轻的感觉； 2）while的引入具有一种轻微的转折，强调下文的意思； 3）shade light on这个短语在科技论文中使用较多，比较规范。

请多指教
