Barack Obama is the current president of United states of America (as of this writing, January, 2011). Chronologically, he is the 44th president of America. He is also the first even American president who is an African American. Barack Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on August 4th, 1961. His parents separated and his mother remarried and later went to Jakarta, Indonesia , with her husband. Barack Obama spent four years in Jakarta and attended a local school. In 1971, he came back to USA to stay with his maternal grandparents. He attended the Occidental College and later Columbia University and graduated with a BA in political science and international relations in 1983. Between 1983 and 1988, he worked in Business International Corporation, New York Public Interest Research Group, director of the Developing Communities Project (DCP) and Gamaliel Foundation. In 1988, Barack Obama was admitted to Harvard Law School from where he graduated with a Juris Doctor (J.D.) with magna cum laude in 1991. Between 1991 and 2004, he served at various positions in University of Chicago Law School, Project Vote, Woods Fund of Chicago, Woods Fund of Chicago etc. Barack Obama was elected to the Illinois Senate in 1996 and was elected to the US Senate in November 2004. He was the Democratic Party presidential primaries in the 2008 election in America and inaugurated as the president of America on January 20, 2009. Barack Obama is married to Michelle Robinson Obama and has two daughters Malia Ann and Natasha. The meaning of his name in Swahili is “one who is blessed”. |
