These transients were obtained by stepping the electrode potential from an initial value of 2.0 V, where no faradaic reaction takes place, to the potential of interest; the current was sampled at 10 s following the application of each pulse. After the
desired data were collected, the resulting electrodeposit was oxidized from the electrode surface by holding the electrode potential at 2.0 V until the oxidation current decayed to the background level.
