Dear XXX,

the typical time for a PhD is 3 to 3-5 years and should be sufficient for anyone who has the stuff to get a PhD.

Please do continue with your plans and continue developing a research proposal. I am slightly concerned with the status of the proposal so far. My guess is that in its present form chances for success are limited. Of course this is meant to encourage you to work more on this and not to discourage you. Be aware however, that the level at which you compete for a scholarship is high and that success is by no means guaranteed. Only the very best proposals in terms of the scientific ideas and the style have a chance.

I wish you all the best. Of course I will continue to provide feedback if needed.

我说是研究的是真空镀膜，博士他推荐复合材料和光谱研究，挺陌生的领域，学起来很费劲
