UK Taxes
Your salary is subject to two compulsory taxes: income tax and national insurance contributions.

1.  Income tax
Income tax is a general tax and the rates are shown below:

Income Tax: taxable bands

20010-11  £ per year  
Personal allowance: 0% £0-£6,475
Basic rate: 20% £6,475 - £37,400  
Higher rate: 40% £37,401 - £150,000
Additional tax rate 50% Over £150,000

2.  National Insurance
This is a compulsory deduction from your salary which funds pension, health and other government-provided benefits. Rates of National Insurance are reduced if you are a member of a pension scheme.

National Insurance: bands (pension scheme member)

2009-10  £ per year
Earning’s Threshold: 0% £0-£5,715
Upper Accrual Point: 9.4% £5,716 - £40,040
Upper Earnings Limit: 11% £40,041 - £43,875
Over Upper Earnings Limit: 1% Over £43,875


上面是英国必须缴纳的税，假如一个senior research associate 的薪水是30k 英镑，
那么税后是多少？税前30K 的薪水在UK 是什么水平？


upper Accrual Point 是什么意思？

在UK一个人生活，一年住宿费和伙食费是多少？
如果三口人生活，一年住宿费和伙食费是多少？
当然，上面我问的是中等消费情况下。



请在英国的博士后和了解情况的专家帮忙。

Thanks for your email and apologies for the late reply - things have been quite hectic at the start of the year.

From your CV I can see that you have some excellent experience that is well aligned with what we need for the project. And so I do hope that you manage to submit an application.

I have funding until March 2012. There is always a chance that we can get further funding (on this project or others) but I am afraid that this is the only funding that I can commit to at the moment. I would be happy (and very positive) about helping the successful candidate to search and apply for continuing funding in my area of research. We have managed to do this in the past - but it will depend heavily on how committed the candidate is to do this.

I hope that these comments help. And I look forward to seeing your application.

Above is the email from an UK professor. the period is 1 year.  The salary level is from 30k to 35k pounds. I asked him how do the successful candidate after the 1 year appointement. Could you tell me what do you think the position? I am about 35 old.

if I successfully obtained the position, should I have IELTS scores?

这个澳大利亚教授对我有点意向。我还申请澳大利亚一个博士后，结果在pendign 中啊。纠结啊，纠结。

请问，到英国做博士后必须要雅思成绩么？

答：英国税收看收入情况的，一般税前收入40k以下，所有税款大概要除去32-35%（包括NI，Income tax，pensio ...

如果在英国工作小于3年，那么Ni，income tax, pension哪个能返回呢？
在实际情况下，中国人大概都得到返款了么？

pension缴纳我看到两种：

1 .Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) is the principal final salary pension scheme provided by Universities, Higher Education and other associated institutions for their employees.

If you currently pay into USS then your employer pays in a sum equal to 16% of your salary, while you pay 6.35% of your salary.  You get tax relief on your contributions, reducing the real cost. You also pay lower National Insurance because you are not paying into the Government’s State Second Pension Scheme.  Also, you don’t pay tax on your employer’s financial contribution

那么说一个人参加USS, 那么pension 得缴纳薪水的6。5% 对么？

如果一个人30k pounds，那么每个月交USS 94 pound 对么？
