为了测量生物样品中游离胆固醇总含量。 含有固定的胆固醇酯酶（ChEt）和chox的Chox（专业术语）基生物传感器和双酶细胞被研制出来。Ram等人（2001）报道了一种生物传感器，这种传感器是将Chox和Chet绑定在胶原膜或导电聚合物上。研究通过在酶多层膜上发生电化学氧化还原过程使其沉积在铂金或ITO镀膜玻璃板上。
