The corrosion of steel with two different surface conditions, i.e. a mill scale and polishing treatment, has been simulated in a saturated Ca(OH)(2) solution containing different chloride concentration. N,N'-dimethylaminoethanol (DMEA) has been applied as an amino-alcohol based inhibitor. The results concluded by electrochemical impedance spectra (EIS) indicate that, contrasted to the steel with a mill scale, the polishing steel has an increasing chloride threshold value.
